Meet Gina
A lot of “About Me” pages share how they wanted to be a (insert their career) since they were young. That is not my story. I had no idea that I wanted to be a photographer until I became one. Though I loved taking pictures (mostly of nature and things only I found interesting) I never envisioned it being something I could make a living by doing.
When I first picked up my first Polaroid, it was nothing more than a desperate grasp at building my memories over again (more on that here).
It was hard for me to understand at the time, but I have come to realize each season we walk through has a purpose and plan. Whether it is a job change, a move, death of a loved one, or other challenges and changes, seasons are a reality of life. Each season bring different emotions, offer opportunities to grow, and teach us a new life lesson.
After the car accident, my grandmother taught me how to crochet. It helped with building muscles, memory, concentration, and my hand-eye coordination. Crochet quickly became another passion of mine. I would crochet several afghans a year to donate to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt lake City, Utah.
Even to this day, when I am not in front of my computer or behind my camera, I am probably crocheting. I met my Junior High Sweetheart on the first day of seventh grade, though I was not allowed to date until I was 16 years old. In High School I took several years of Interior Design and was convinced that would be the field I spent my entire working career in. I also took Advanced Photography 2, since I quickly tested out of all the lower classes. |
After High School, my step-dad wanted me to follow his path into the Military to help pay for College. I joined the Army, MOS 31K (Military Police K-9 handler). I was injured in the line of duty so my military career was cut short.
After returning home from the Army, we quickly discovered we were pregnant. SURPRISE! Having our daughter was the most rewarding, wonderful, and scary thing that had ever happened to me. A few years later, we had our son. And the adventure of parenthood continued. So much joy came in these two sweet, little bundles. Seasons come and go. Years fly by and before I knew it, I am now grandmother to two marvelous, adorable little girls. |
